University College Cork Partners Up to Save Energy

AN agreement signed between the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) and the University College Cork (UCC) underlines UCC’s focus on improving their energy efficiency.

The agreement has been formulated under the SEAI’s Public Sector Partnership programme, with the University taking a major role in helping Ireland achieve it’s national 33 percent energy saving target by 2020.

The target was set in ‘The National Energy Efficiency Action Plan 2009-2020’, with the achievement seen as a major contributor to revival of the struggling economy through a sustainable future.

The partnership with UCC and SEAI will build on the institution’s existing energy efficiency programme, with the University already holding ISO 50001 accreditation - the first public organisation in Ireland to hold this certification which can help deliver substantial energy and cost savings.

SEAI will now develop an eight year plan for other public bodies to also partner with them and help work towards the national energy savings target for 2020.
