Portugal Runs for Four Days Purely on Renewable Energy

LAST week Portugal kept the lights burning purely on with renewable energy for four consecutive days, creating a clean energy milestone according to data analysis of the National Energy Network figures.

Solar, wind and hydro power fulfilled all of Portugal’s energy demand over a 107-hour run from 6.45am on Saturday 7 May until 5.45pm Wednesday 11 May.

The release of this information follows the announcement from Germany that clean energy had powered almost all its electricity needs fro a single day, Sunday 15 May. Over that day energy prices actually turned to negative several times, meaning that consumers were blend paid to use energy.
