NH Hotel Group's Win-Win Through Energy Efficiency

THE NH Hoteles group has exceeded its own targets set in their 2008-2010 Strategic Environmental Plan and have received two international green awards in the process enjoying making major savings.

From the inception of their Strategic Plan, NH invested more than €4 million in environmental initiatives, with 60% of this figure directly making its hotels more energy efficient and sustainable. Energy savings of 22.7% have been achieved and carbon emissions reduced by 40%.

NH Hotels is one of the top 25 hotel chains globally and amongst the top few in Europe. This year they were awarded for their energy efficiency and green efforts winning the IMEX and GMIC Green Supplier Award Gold Category and the 2013 Project Icarus Sustainability Gold Medal.

Specialist web site incentivetravel.co.uk report Juliet Howie, Commercial Director, Global Sales Force NH Hoteles, said that the “objectives laid down in our plan of 2008 were very ambitious. Not only have we achieved them all today, but have done so well ahead of schedule.

“This would not have been possible without the contribution of the employees at all of our hotels who, thanks to ongoing training in this field, have proven capable of adapting to change and making this company a sustainability benchmark in the tourism sector”.

The improvement in energy efficiency across the groups facilities helped them to become the first hotel chain globally to achieve ISO 50001 certification, the international Energy Management Systems standard.
