Azerbaijan to Improve Energy Efficiency and Boost Renewables

AZERBAIJAN are preparing an energy efficiency and alternative energy programme according to Akim Badalov Director of State Agency on Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources.

Badalov revealed that the medium term action plan is being prepared for further publicity in November. He added that currently development work is being conducted and a decision has been made to set up a public company to increase activity in developing energy efficiency and alternative energy sources.

The state-funded programme is needed as Azerbaijan need to catch up on the modern technologies being used elsewhere to improve energy efficiency and renewables.

The scheme’s main objectives is to increase the share of renewable energy to 20 percent of the country’s energy supply by 2020. Plus an increase in energy efficiency to 20 percent and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
