Victoria Doubles Energy Efficiency Target

The Victoria State Government in Australia has been strengthening their energy saving scheme, which will now also target businesses.
John Brumby, Premier of Victoria, has launched an election climate-change policy, which expands the current energy-saving scheme to target 500,000 small and medium businesses.
This has doubled the Victorian Energy Efficiency Target (VEET), which promises to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 5.4 million tonnes a year.
The VEET encourages the use of energy efficient and energy saving technology.
The announcement expands the current household scheme so as to cover businesses as well.
The Australian Federal government has considered adopting Victoria’s scheme nationwide, with Brumby calling for the Victorian approach to be mirrored, stating that it could cut power bills by up to 25 per cent.
''I hope this is a policy that is emulated, copied across Australia, because this is the way to go in the household and small-business sector,'' Brumby said.
''This is where the focus is going to be over the next two to three years - dragging people's power bills down by using electricity more efficiently.''
Brumby said the energy efficiency announcement was the first step in a ''landmark'' climate change white paper due to be released later in July.
The new improved energy efficiency target, rises from 2.7 million tonnes a year, and has received reasonably well by environment groups, business and energy retailers.
Enigin Distributors in the region, and in fact globally, have the ideal tools and solutions to help businesses become more energy efficient and meet targets set by governments, while saving money through greatly reduced utility bills.
