US Pacific Air Force bases go green with energy-saving products

Energy-saving products and conservation projects are being adopted by the US Pacific Air Forces in a bid to not only save money and avoid power wastage but to cut carbon emissions, it has been reported.
Okinawa-based Kadena Air Base, which is the US Air Force's largest post in the Far East is embarking on the conservation efforts in a plan to cut its energy use by three per cent annually, according to Stars and Stripes.
As part of the Air Force's Infrastructure Energy Strategic Plan launched last year, energy-efficient fluorescent lights with sensors that turn lights on and off when people leave a room are being fitted at Misawa Air Base.
South Korea-based Kunsan Air Base is on the other hand upgrading aircraft hangars and shelters in a bid to make them more energy-efficient, the publication reported.
Conservation measures being adopted across the board include changing heating systems in aircraft shelters, improving air circulation and installing low-flow shower heads.
The infrastructure energy strategic plan aims to reduce energy costs by 20 per cent by 2020.
