UK and China make energy-saving business deals

British enterprises will be able to access new business opportunities through a series of new low-carbon investments in China.
This is according to British business secretary Lord Mandelson, who was in China this week to speak at a business forum on low-carbon solutions and energy-saving in Beijing.
Lord Mandelson said that contracts and investment deals totalling over $500 were made between British and Chinese firms during his visit.
He commented: "The UK can offer the knowledge, technology and experience to help our two economies de-carbonise.
"The UK has world-class climate change research institutions and consultancy services in carbon measurement and management. Our architects and engineers are creating designs for the low-carbon cities of the future."
British companies will also be encouraged to invest in Changsha, an urban area in Hunan province that is set to be established as China's latest 'sustainable city'.
According to Reuters, the new deals referenced by Lord Mandelson include an agreement between UK firm Pilkington Group and the Chinese glassmaker Shanghai Yaohua Pilkington Glass to develop a new factory for energy-efficient glass.
