Spain and Poland announce energy management plan

Spain and Poland have agreed to the terms of a multi-million euro energy management plan that will allow them to trade carbon emissions.
In a statement, the European Commission explained that this is the first deal of its kind for Poland under the Kyoto Protocol, which was adopted in Japan on December 11th 1997 and brought into force on February 16th 2005.
According to the body, the deal will allow for "significant" reductions in greenhouse gas emissions through the Green Investment Scheme, an associated greening initiative.
It will allow Spain to meet its obligations under the terms of the protocol and also provide finances to projects that help to enhance the green credentials of Poland.
Polish environment minister Maciej Nowicki said that the scheme is designed to ensure the transparent and effective management of revenue from the sale of surplus carbon credits and also monitor the ecological impact of the move.
