Smart meters and grids will bring benefits to consumers

Energy-saving products such as smart grids and smart meters will bring benefits to commercial as well as residential power consumers, according to a conservation expert.

Writing in the Examiner, Phoenix-based green business expert Brian Coppa said that the technology will not only allow consumers to save energy and reduce their carbon footprint, but also help in the production of power.

Smart grids increase connectivity between suppliers and consumers, while they also hold commercial potential because they make it possible for consumers to contribute energy production to the central grid.

"A smart grid would offer more detailed information through home energy-monitoring tools, which may be small electronic displays or internet-based programmes," he wrote.

Such programmes will give "a real-time view of energy utilisation for various appliances and the property as a whole", allowing consumers to adjust their power usage to reduce their energy bills as desired.

Many countries are planning to introduce smart meters to ensure consumers have control of their power usage.ADNFCR-2541-ID-19308363-ADNFCR
