Schemes that reduce carbon emissions are "win/win/win solutions"

Initiatives that aim to reduce carbon emissions are "win/win/win solutions" for the natural world, it has been asserted.
Deputy executive director of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Richard Jones made his comments at a global district energy symposium in Copenhagen in recent days.
The sector expert recognised six communities for their efforts in making use of district energy to help them to enhance their efficiency, augment their green credentials and tackle climate change.
Mr Jones said: "Low-carbon, energy efficient district energy systems are win/win/win solutions for the environment, energy security and local economic growth."
According to the IEA, district energy systems play an "essential" role in the fight to reduce carbon emissions and also enhance the energy efficiency of cities around the globe.
It states that the benefits associated with harnessing surplus heat and making use of local energy sources that are renewable make district heating "the sensible choice" for regions that want to promote economic development while minimising their impact on the environment.
