"New opportunities" to reduce carbon emissions needed

Industry needs to find new methods and solutions that can help to reduce carbon emissions, it has been avowed.
Dr Mark Williamson, director of innovations at the Carbon Trust, made his comments as the organisation met with industry leaders to announce support for a drive to lower energy costs and carbon emissions.
The Industrial Energy Efficiency Accelerator is an energy saving initiative that is designed to achieve more efficiency and competitiveness in the UK manufacturing sector, while also cutting carbon emissions.
Britvic, Tarmac and Highland Spring are among the first tranche of enterprises to word with the body on the £15 million innovation programme.
Other bodies to have signed up include Dairy UK and the Food and Drink Federation.
"More than a quarter of the UK's carbon emissions come from industry and we've got to find new opportunities to reduce them. The way to make truly substantial cuts is to get to the very heart of manufacturing," Dr Williamson commented.
In other news, the Carbon Trust launched the East Midlands Carbon Management Programme, an energy management initiative that is supported by the East Midlands Improvement and Efficiency Partnership.
