New energy-saving complex being created in Dublin

Work is underway on a complex in the docklands of Dublin that makes use of energy-efficient building materials and construction techniques.
In an article for the Irish Times, Frank McDonald explains that a 2,000-seat theatre is one of the structures in Grand Canal Square, which is nearing completion and has elements that are accredited by the BRE Environmental Assessment Method (Breeam).
A number of office buildings in the complex have achieved an "excellent" Breeam rating, even though they are air-conditioned.
Mr McDonald explained that the green credentials of the buildings are so high that they were able to acquire the ranking despite using the chill-beam system, with the office atriums serving as stacks.
"Jagged lines first employed at the Jewish Museum in Berlin are everywhere, from the folded glass-and-steel screen that sits under a tilted canopy on the front to the shape of the bars and balconies," he concluded.
Breeam claims to be the most widely-used environment assessment method for buildings in the world.
