New Energy Minister & Energy Agency to Drive Efficiencies

THE UK’s new Energy Secretary Ed Davey, is to launch the new Energy Efficiency Deployment Office (EEDO), tasked with saving businesses, and households, money on energy costs.
Davey believes that going green can reduce costs considerably, with the EEDO overseeing a reduction in energy demand, which Davey told The Independent he feels is "equally important" as the need to increase supply.
The EEDO is also intended to be "at the centre of a new drive to improve the way we use energy across the UK," according to Davey.
Davey took up his post on Friday, after the previous minister, Chris Huhne, resigned to defend himself against a charge of perverting the course of justice, after claiming he asked his ex-wife to admit to speeding and the resultant penalty points in his stead.
Many in the UK Government hope Davey will take positive action against ever-rising energy bills, with a record of claiming that UK energy companies have used varying strategies to overcharge consumers. He has also previuosly warned that focussing on investments in nuclear energy can hit energy efficiency and renewable technology investments.
The powerful new body, EEDO, will be launched my UK ministers this week.
