Montana schools implementing energy-saving projects

Schools in the US state of Montana are investing in energy-saving products and conservation initiatives aimed at reducing their power usage and carbon footprint.

The schools are adopting the green measures thanks to more than $4.8 million in funding made available as part of the Montana Reinvestment Act, according to Billings Gazette.

Helena, East Helena, Townsend and Montana City school districts are among those that have benefited from the investment, which has seen schools carry out retrofits and upgrades to boilers, heating and ventilation systems.

While more than 40,000 fluorescent lamps are being phased out and replaced with energy-saving lights by schools in Helena, some of their counterparts in East Helena are investing in light motion sensors.

According to East Helena's superintendent Ron Whitmoyer, the energy-saving measures could have taken years to implement without the funding.

Montana City School superintendent Tony Kloker added that occupancy sensors fitted into the district's schools, as well as other efficiency measures, will "save a lot of money for the taxpayers in the future".ADNFCR-2541-ID-19321655-ADNFCR
