Malaysia Prime Minister wants a Sustainable Future

MALAYSIAN Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said today that the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP) will place emphasis on increasing energy efficiency and on the use of renewable energy to guarantee the sustainability of the environment.
The Prime Minister said that relevant guidelines, standards and laws, amongst other measures, would be introduced so ensuring energy efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions.
The Malaysian Government are to introduce new initiatives, amongst them Feed-in Tariffs for renewable energy and a Renewable Energy Fund.
Najib said: "The government will take the lead in adopting green building standards. New government buildings will be designed to meet green standards.
"Energy efficiency of existing buildings will be enhanced and, as a showcase example, the Prime Minister's Office complex will be upgraded to meet the Gold Standard Green rating."
Najib added that his government would also promote economic opportunities and hence create value from energy conservation.
"We must also seize opportunities that arise from emerging trends, where green products, services and technology are increasingly in demand," he said.
Najib called on Malaysian industries to use the incentives provided through the governments Green Technology Financing Scheme, worth US$465 million, to install green technology, products and services.
