Major companies 'using energy-efficient hotels'

Hotels with energy-saving features are becoming increasingly popular for business travel in the US, according to a report.

As companies become more conscious of their carbon footprint and overall environmental performance, a growing number of hotels are using green measures to attract corporate guests, USA Today reveals.

The news provider explains that state governments are also contributing to the trend by encouraging employees to choose accommodation with energy-efficient credentials whenever possible.

Linda Chipperfield of Green Seal, a company that certifies buildings with green features, commented: "Corporations want to be able to say, 'This is what we're doing.' They can put it in their annual reports."

Patricia Griffin, a spokesperson for the Green Hotels Association, added: "The idea is: "If two hotels are equal, you should choose green."

Green Seal has certified 53 hotel complexes so far and expects that number to double next year, according to the news source

In September, the organisation unveiled GS-46, its new environmental standard for restaurants and food vendors.
