Legislation to reduce carbon emissions 'coming into force'

One sector commentator has noted that legislation designed to reduce carbon emissions will be brought into place from April 2010.

Nick Robinson, technical operation lead at Cisco, made his comments at the Green IT Expo 2009, which took place at the Barbican Exhibition Centre in London between November 10th and 11th.

He noted that the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme - which was formerly known as the Carbon Reduction Commitment - will have an impact on around 5,000 businesses in the UK.

Mr Robinson said that the energy efficiency initiative will rank businesses against a range of criteria to see how their green credentials stack up as part of an annual league table.

"If you are advertising yourself as being a green business or organisation, you don't want to be appearing at the bottom of that list. That's going to encourage people to begin driving activity around reducing CO2 emissions," he concluded.
