LA hotel recognised for energy-saving achievements

The largest hotel in Los Angeles has received a special award in recognition of its environmental performance.
After passing a preliminary inspection and several monthly checks, the Westin Bonaventure was granted Green Seal Silver Certification, an accolade handed out by the Washington DC-based non-profit organisation Green Seal.
The hotel has implemented a number of energy-saving measures to reduce costs and become more "environmentally responsible", including the replacement of its guestroom water fixtures with water-conserving technology and the installation of light occupancy sensors in its 27 meeting rooms.
"While some of these initiatives may seem simple, they've already made a noticeable difference in our energy use and waste output," said Michael Czarcinski, managing director at the Westin Bonaventure.
"The flick of a light switch is more significant than you think - particularly in a hotel of this size. We're in a position to make a great deal of difference by reducing our carbon footprint," he added.
It is estimated that the energy-saving measures will save the 1,354-room building about $225,000 per year.
Designed by John Portman, the Westin Bonaventure is an iconic feature of central Los Angeles and has appeared in films such as True Lies, Showtime and Escape from LA.
