Jordan's Energy Conservation - "State Of Emergency"

The Kingdom of Jordan is beginning to crank up the pressure to become energy efficient.
Encouraging environmental investments in the Kingdom and reducing energy consumption are among the Environment Minister Hazem Malhas’ top priorities for 2010.
Malhas declared "a state of emergency" with regard to Jordan’s energy consumption, underscoring that all government institutions, amongst others, should start conserving energy.
“We are looking for renewable energy sources when we should first stop wasting energy, if institutions reduce their energy bills, more projects in each field can be implemented," Malhas highlighted.
“We aim at achieving economic growth that is not accompanied by an increase in energy use," the minister said, adding that this can be accomplished through encouraging energy efficiencies.
