India Sign $11.3 million Energy Efficiency Deal

INDIA has signed a tripartite deal with the World Bank and the Small Industries Development Bank of India to promote energy efficiency in micro, small and medium enterprises.

The project, expected to be completed by December 31, 2014, and signed by the Indian Finance Ministry is proposed to be implemented through a Global Environment Facility grant of US$11.3 million, the Ministry revealed in a statement on Monday.

The official statement revealed:

"The objective of the project is to increase demand for energy efficiency investments in targeting micro, small and medium enterprise clusters and to build their capacity to access commercial finance."

The project consists of the following parts:

  1. Capacity and Awareness Building
  2. Increasing Energy Efficiency Investments
  3. Knowledge Management and Sharing
  4. Project Management

This deal will move the energy saving business in India another step forward, creating awareness and opportunities for increased business for those involved in energy efficiency, energy audits and energy saving installations.
