Farmers Get $6.5 Million in Energy Efficiency Stimulus

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has made available $3,6m in loan guarantees plus $2,9m in grants to 61 Iowa farms in a bid to assist farmers and rural small businesses to make energy efficient improvements to their operations.
The funding is available through the Rural Energy for America Program, enabling farmers to implement energy efficient operations yet still remain competitive by lowering expenses, plus reducing the countries dependence on foreign oil.
US senator for Iowa, Tom Harkin said:
"Rising energy costs are impacting all businesses, but in rural America, we have the ability to streamline operations and cut costs by improving energy efficiency for farmers and families."
