Environment Agency publishes plan to reduce carbon emissions

The Environment Agency has published a new five-year plan that aims to help reduce carbon emissions from businesses.

In a statement, the organisation said that environmental management is becoming increasingly important for firms and that it aims to provide support to these enterprises by committing to this initiative.

The body's head of climate change and sustainable development Tony Grayling said that emissions from services and products that are consumed on a daily basis have increased by almost a fifth since 1990.

In order to control this, he said that organisations will need to accept energy saving schemes into the heart of their corporate culture.

"The Environment Agency will have a key role to play in making sure that the UK meets its ambitious carbon reduction targets by 2050," Mr Grayling concluded.

In recent days, the body outlined a plan to reduce incidents of serious pollution by five per cent each year until 2015.
