Energy management targets 'will be met'

The government will meet its renewable energy management targets by 2020, an industry expert has asserted.
Online resource NewEnergyFocus reports that Andrew Perrins, head of bioenergy at the Department of Energy and Climate Change's Office of Renewable Energy Deployment (ORED), said that the UK is "miles" away from where it needs to be.
However, he asserted that "step changes" will take place over the coming years will mean that the goals are reached.
ORED is responsible for making progress on the commitments made by the government is its Renewable Energy Strategy, which was published in July.
Mr Perrins made his comments at a debate on climate change, global warming and the need to reduce carbon emissions, which was presented by journalist Jonathan Dimbleby.
Mr Dimbleby commented: "We need to press the need for a radical shift in the consumption of energy. We are sleepwalking into this future catastrophe which we know is simply unbelievable to contemplate for our children and grandchildren."
Concluding, he stated that as the UK begins to leave the recession behind, the opportunities for the proliferation of renewable efficiency energy are better than they were several years ago.
