Energy efficiency projects boost business in South Dakota
Various energy-saving projects undertaken in the US state of South Dakota could lead to more jobs being created in the area.
That is the opinion of Matt McGovern, South Dakota's director for Repower America, who observed that for every $1 million invested in energy efficiency, 16 jobs are created, the Argus Leader reports.
This compares to the oil and gas industries, where an investment of the same amount will only lead to five new positions opening up.
He went on to say that "these are good, high-paying, skilled-labour jobs for small businesses that can't be outsourced".
South Dakota's energy policies have led to the state receiving a higher ranking in the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) survey, moving from 47th to 36th.
Founded in 1980, the ACEEE is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting economic prosperity, environmental protection and energy security through a number of methods, including carrying out technical analyses and assisting the media to cover relevant issues.
