Energy Efficiency Or Credit Crunch? The Focus Shifts

Global concerns about climate change have surpassed those relative to the
credit crunch, which has persisted in some parts of the world since last
year.
Diligent efforts are being made world wide to incite businesses around the
globe to integrate environmental factors in their activity by becoming
energy efficient.
These measures show that primary concerns have shifted from the global
financial crisis to environmental causes, focusing on how to save energy and
money simultaneously.
The Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC) has conducted a
study (the "HSBC Climate Confidence Monitor 2009") revealing that 69% of the
12,000 quizzed, from developed and developing countries, outlined that
efforts to handle climate change are greater than those applied to dealing
with the economic crisis.
The study shows that, among the surveyed countries (USA, Britain, Australia,
Canada, Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Malaysia and Mexico), Mexican
respondents had the highest attention to climate change, as opposed to the
USA, who had the lowest on the issue.
The survey further states that developing countries demonstrate more desire
to take action against climate change than developed countries.
86% of Brazilian and 75% of Chinese surveyed consider as 'very important'
that an agreement about taking action for the environment is reached during
the upcoming Copenhagen Conference in December.
Last year's survey announced that 32% of respondents had the intention to
live a more environmentally-friendly life. 4% was gained this year,
amounting to 36%.
The most active nations for promoting an energy efficient,
environmentally-friendly lifestyle are China, India and France, according to
the study.
