Electricity conservation can help Austin become greener

Electricity conservation can help Austin become greener

Efficient electricity usage has been suggested as the ideal way of helping a company that powers the capital city of the US state of Texas to reduce its own carbon emissions.

Austin Energy wants the city of Austin to be greener and is considering numerous proposals that can help it achieve this, reports statesman.com.

The firm's general manager Roger Duncan believes that the key to achieving this is coming up with energy-saving measures that can help customers use less electricity without affecting their lifestyles.

According to Mr Duncan, investments in new technologies, such as energy-monitoring products, will have to be made by the city in order to help businesses and domestic consumers go green.

Such energy-saving technologies will be cheaper for the company, which aims to offset 700 megawatts of demand through energy efficiency by 2020, compared to building a new power plant to meet growing electricity demand.

Efficiency products such as Enigin's Eniscope offer real-time energy monitoring that can help industrial units cut their electricity usage significantly.
