Earth Hour to Help Pakistan with Energy Efficiency

Chairman of Pakistan’s Senate, Farooq H. Naek, underlined today, Friday Mrach 26, the need for enhancing coordination among parliamentarians, different sections of the society, government institutions, commerce and NGOs to conserve energy and save environment for future generation of Pakistan.
“We have to work together to save every sapling, every drop of water and every unit of energy to ensure a bright and prosperous future for our coming generations,” Naek said in connection with the “Earth Hour 2010” to be observed in Pakistan like other parts of the world on Saturday.
Naek observed that it was a matter of satisfaction that the Ministry of Environment had decided to join hands with the world community to observe Earth Hour-2010, which will sensitize all the sections of the society and general public at large with regard to the significance of environment and conservation of energy in the country.
“This shows the significance that the government and people of Pakistan are attaching to the issues related to the environment, climate change and conservation of energy to save our earth - the only home of humanity in the universe,” he added.
Naek also highlighted the importance of spearheading the cause of energy conservation by cabinet members, party groups and parliamentarians to give it a political ownership.
Earth Hour, sponsored by the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) is set for 8.30pm on Saturday March 27 - when worldwide people, businesses and governments will switch off lights and appliances for one hour.
