DECC implements energy efficiency programme

The UK Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has reaffirmed its commitment to reducing its environmental impact by signing up to the 10:10 energy efficiency campaign.
In a statement issued in recent days, the body explained that this means it will take steps to reduce carbon emissions by ten per cent in the 2009-10 financial year.
Commenting on the move, Joan Ruddock, energy and climate change minister, said that the energy efficiency initiative sends a message to other governments around the world that the UK is committed to tackling climate change.
Ms Ruddock, who is the Labour MP for Lewisham Deptford, added: "By signing up to the 10:10 campaign, DECC is cementing its leadership role in championing energy efficiency. Saving energy not only makes sense for the climate, but it makes financial sense, too."
The department is now enhancing the energy efficiency of its IT, lighting and air conditioning systems.
