Consumers can save money with energy saving technology

New energy saving technology can help consumers make big savings as well as watch the amount of energy they use, according to Consumer Focus.

Adopting energy efficiency moves such as switching from a prepayment meter to online billing is one way to go about making such savings, said Zoe McLeod, principal policy advocate at Consumer Focus.

"If you switch to direct debit payments you save around £110 a year and if you switch to online payments direct debit you should save around £190 a year," she explained.

"People should be aware that if they have a debt of £100 or less and are on a prepayment meter they still have the right to switch under something called the debt assignment protocol."

Her views were expressed in the wake of the recent criticism of energy regulator Ofgem for allowing millions of low income families with prepayment meters to be overcharged.

According to switching experts uSwitch.com, families were overcharged by £464 million over three years.ADNFCR-2541-ID-19220313-ADNFCR
