Clinton deal could spur energy-saving business opportunities in India

A new initiative by the Clinton Foundation to harness solar energy in Asia could result in energy-saving business opportunities in the region, it has emerged.

The foundation has agreed to build the largest solar power station in the world, according to Gujarat state's energy minister Saurabh Patel, who has confirmed to the UK Telegraph that it will be constructed near India's border with Pakistan.

Mr Patel told the newspaper that the foundation "will bring in investors, create infrastructure and new technology" as well as provide finance for "the world's biggest solar plant".

A Memorandum of Understanding to create the solar park, which is one of nearly 40 such schemes aimed at tapping the desert's solar energy potential, has been signed.

The park will produce more than 5,000 Megawatts of electricity.

According to Mr Patel, the government has not only set aside land to support the renewable energy initiatives, but will also provide financial incentives for businesses that start producing power before the end of next year.

Backed by corporate giants such as GE Energy and Microsoft, the Clinton Foundation provides funding to support green energy initiatives.ADNFCR-2541-ID-19301268-ADNFCR
