Chinese retailers to get subsidies for energy-saving lights

Authorities in China's industrial city of Taiyuan have come up with an energy-saving initiative that is aimed at reducing the amount of power retail enterprises consume.
Retailers that invest in energy-saving lights will now benefit from a 50 per cent grant from the government, according to Taiyuan Bureau of Commerce, reports China Retail News.
Local department stores, supermarkets, restaurants and hotels have been contacted by the bureau and asked to state their green lighting requirements.
According to the publication, the move to offer the subsidies to the retailers could save millions of Yuan annually.
Last year Taiyuan was named alongside nine other cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao and Shenyang as the beneficiaries of a retail sector energy-saving campaign designed to reduce electricity use.
United Nations secretary general Ban Ki-moon recently called on China to support and invest in energy-saving projects and technologies during a visit to the country.
