Businesses back 10:10 campaign

Businesses back 10:10 campaign

Businesses and celebrities have signed up to a new campaign designed to encourage greater energy efficiency over the next few months.

The 10:10 campaign has been launched seeking to encourage businesses and individuals alike to cut their carbon emissions by ten per cent by 2010.

The initiative has been launched at the Tate Modern gallery in London and was attended by a host of celebrities, from former mayor Ken Livingstone and artist Anthony Gormley, to comedian Alistair McGowan and radio DJ Sara Cox.

It is hoped the scheme will encourage more people to consider implementing energy efficiency measures in their own home as well as getting businesses to look at ways in which they can curb their carbon emissions.

The programme has been backed by the government, with energy and climate change minister Ed Miliband welcoming the scheme.

"By signing up to the 10:10 campaign, I hope people will be sending a broader message to governments round the world," Mr Miliband said.

Meanwhile, the government has launched a new Community Energy Saving Programme, which will see £350 million spent over the next three years to improve the energy efficiency of the properties belonging to some of the most vulnerable people in the country.
