Business Owners to Focus on Energy Efficiency

Business Owners to Focus on Energy Efficiency

TO reduce costs business owners are choosing commercial premises with a close eye on energy efficiency.

So claim reports published by the Department of Energy and Climate Change in the UK, business energy bills are expected to rise by 26% over the next decade and in other countries even more rapidly, often as part as an energy efficiency drive.

In South Africa they have experienced a 25% energy price hike this year and the forecast is for the same rise over the next two years - badly hitting companies where it hurts most, in the profits.

Hence energy efficiency is leading many companies globally to rightly pay closer attention to the energy performance of their offices and commercial space.

If businesses are considering relocation energy efficiency is a becoming a key requirement.

More and more governments are imposing regulations for energy efficiency guides, records, figures and even certificates be available for commercial buildings.

As an example, in the UK from this December it is expected all commercial properties will be obliged to carry an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) graph.

Marc Blomfield, MD of The National EPC Company, believes energy efficient properties will become the most desirable options:
"The capital value of the exposed inefficient buildings will fall considerably once all commercial properties are obliged to carry an energy efficiency rating on their sales particulars.

"Badly built offices have been costing British businesses millions of pounds each year. It's essential that this ailing office stock is improved. If bills are rising, efficiency needs to be made a priority. Making offices sustainable will help companies in the battle against the energy price hike," he said.

In this UK example one of the proposals is likely to rule that all marketing materials and adverts for commercial properties will need to include the EPC graph and this action is being replicated elsewhere around the world.
