Buildings provide energy-saving opportunities, says real estate expert

A property expert has explained how construction presents major opportunities for the adoption of energy-saving measures.
Dan Probst, chairman of energy and sustainability services at real estate specialist Jones Lang LaSalle, said that making certain changes to building structures can lead to significant reductions in energy use.
However, he also noted that a lack of "education" in the sector has meant that many people are still unaware of potential energy savings and do not know how to achieve them, climatebiz.com reports.
According to figures from the US Green Building Council, property operations currently account for approximately 39 per cent of the country's energy consumption.
"Buildings are a big part of the problem, but buildings are also a big opportunity for change," Mr Probst told the website.
He said that Jones Lang LaSalle has helped some of its clients to achieve between 20 per cent and 40 per cent reductions in energy use by making improvements to their buildings.
The firm has its headquarters in Chicago and employs over 30,000 people in 60 countries around the world.
