All UK energy efficiency schemes 'should be fast tracked'

Every kind of energy efficiency initiative in the UK should receive backing from the government in order for them to be fast tracked, according to one sector commentator.
A spokesperson for the RenewableEnergyCentre.co.uk made her comments after the secretary of state for energy and climate change Ed Miliband presented parliament with a series of draft texts regarding the need for a secure, low-carbon energy mix.
The statements say that nuclear power is required and that ten sites have been identified as being potentially suitable for new nuclear deployment by the end of 2025.
According to the spokesperson, it is imperative that nuclear power is not seen as the only energy efficiency solution and that other systems are also taken into consideration.
She concluded: "It would be very disappointing if nuclear was seen as the solution, rather than other technology such as wind power, which can be installed much faster and with very few contentious issues."
