See UFO See Energy - Video

Wednesday 12th September 2012

We have stated in previous posts that if you can see the energy you are using you can control it, allowing you to turn off what you don’t need or turn on what you do, cutting waste.

So you can guess what ‘Visible Energy’ offer, a way to see your energy use and then control it.

Visible Energy aim to change the way we use electricity, allowing everybody to monitor and save energy in a convenient way by using Web-based tools and related software.

The UFO Power Center, named as it looks like a flying saucer, has four ‘Smart Outlets’ that can be remotely controlled.

Information on the electricity consumption for the devices that are plugged into the outlets is acquired every five minutes and stored for two months in the device.

An LED status light on the top of the unit changes color from green to yellow to red, depending on the total power being used at a given moment.

Users can also get visual feedback on the energy consumption and cost of operating each device plugged in through in-home displays such as the Energy UFO iPhone application or the Energy Dashboard for PC browsers.

Also each outlet on the power center can be automated to turn devices on and off at set times or under certain conditions, even by the Visible Energy Web Portal.

An onboard timer allows the UFO Power Center to set automatic switching of each of the socks to detect when a connected appliance is in stand-by mode and to turn off the other outlets.

A clever device but simple to use, again taking the effort out of energy saving and turning things off or on - but changing behavior through knowledge.
